Pangi is the valley the pass was built to reach. Cut off by snow for months each year, it's a place of steep gorges, deodar forest and wooden villages, and very few visitors. Most people turn round at Killar. This circuit stays three nights and goes up the side valleys.

You cross Sach Pass from Bairagarh to Killar, spend three days exploring Pangi's side valleys by SUV with short walks, and return over the pass to Chamba. Distances within Pangi are short but slow: these are narrow roads carved into cliffs.

Difficulty: By SUV with a driver. Two crossings of the pass and narrow side-valley roads; short, optional walks.

Highlights

  • Three nights in Killar, Pangi's main town
  • Sural Bhatori and Hudan Bhatori, side valleys off the Chenab
  • Mindhal's Chamunda temple, with its copper plate of 1641
  • The road cut under overhanging rock along the Chenab
  • Sach Pass, twice

Sach Pass & Pangi Valley Circuit: quick answers

What is Pangi Valley?

The valley of the Chenab (Chandrabhaga) on the far side of Sach Pass, in Chamba district. Killar is its main town. Sach Pass is its road link to Chamba, and it's shut by snow for months each year.

Why three nights in Killar?

Pangi's side valleys are close on the map but slow on the road. Three nights let you see Sural, Hudan and Mindhal without long, rushed days, and leave room if a road is closed.

Where do we stay in Pangi?

In Killar, at a homestay or guesthouse; a few are listed on our Killar stays page. Expect simple rooms and home food.

Can we leave Pangi towards Manali instead of going back?

Yes: that's our Chamba to Manali crossover, which carries on from Killar along the Chenab to Udaipur and Keylong.

Is there any walking?

Short village walks on most days, at your pace. Nothing technical. Tell us if you'd like a longer walk in one of the side valleys.

Things that change, and what we couldn't confirm

  • Distances from Killar to Sural Bhatori, Hudan Bhatori and Purthi differ between sources (roughly 13–25 km each way). Treat the day totals as rough.
  • Side-valley roads in Pangi open and close with the weather; we confirm each day's plan locally.
