Sach Pass Motorcycle Expedition
Ride Chamba to Killar and back over the pass, with a night at the foot of the climb before each crossing, a back-up vehicle and a spare day in Pangi.

Ride it, be driven, drive it yourself, camp below it or carry on to Manali. Every trip here crosses Sach Pass in the morning, after a night at the foot of the climb, and is quoted on WhatsApp for your dates. For the road and the season, start with our Sach Pass complete guide.
Himalayan Brothers runs Hotel Diwan Sachpass in Bairagarh, the last village before the climb, open all year since 2019.
Every crossing is planned for first light, before the meltwater streams rise, after a night at the foot of the climb: Bairagarh, or Killar on the way back.
Snow and rockfall close this road at short notice. We check the latest report the evening before each crossing; if the road is shut, we wait or change the plan with you. The motorcycle expedition keeps a spare day in Killar.
Tell us your dates and group; we send the day-by-day plan and a quote. Nothing is paid on this site.
Ride Chamba to Killar and back over the pass, with a night at the foot of the climb before each crossing, a back-up vehicle and a spare day in Pangi.
Sit back in a high-clearance SUV with a driver who knows the road: Chamba, a night in Bairagarh, over the top to Killar and back.
Take the wheel of a Thar or Gypsy-class 4×4 from Chamba, with a road briefing, a plan that crosses in the mornings and help on the phone.
Cross Sach Pass to Killar and stay three nights in Pangi: the side valleys of Sural and Hudan, Mindhal's temple and the cliff roads above the Chenab.
The top of the pass and back, done safely: an afternoon drive to Bairagarh, up to Sach Pass at first light, and down to Chamba or Dalhousie by evening.
A night in Bairagarh to adjust, then a seasonal camp near Satrundi, about 3,400 m up, for dark skies, and the top of the pass at sunrise.
Six days paced for the light: Chamba's stone temples, dawn at the top of the pass, Pangi's overhangs and the Chenab, with a driver who stops when you say.
One way across the mountains: Chamba over Sach Pass to Killar, along the Chenab to Udaipur and Keylong, and out through the Atal Tunnel to Manali.
Only while the road over the top is open: roughly from late May or June until snow shuts it, from mid-October. The opening date moves by weeks from year to year, so we confirm your dates against the latest official report before you book.
Month by month, with what each part of the season is like: best time to visit Sach Pass.
At the last report, snow had shut it for two days and it reopened for small 4×4s only, with icy patches.
It depends on the trip, the month, how many of you travel and where you start, so we quote on WhatsApp for your dates. There are no prices on this site and nothing is paid here: you agree the plan and the quote with us in the chat.
Only while the road over the top is open, which is roughly from late May or June until snow shuts it, from mid-October. The opening date moves every year: 11 May in 2026, about 26 May in 2025, 8 June in 2024 and 3 July in 2023. September to early October is usually the best window.
Every crossing has a night at the foot of the climb before it (Bairagarh, or Killar on the way back), and we check the latest official report and the road the evening before. If the road is shut, we wait a day or change the plan with you. Extra nights caused by closures aren't in the quote, and we tell you before you book.
Yes. Most trips start in Chamba, but we can pick you up at Pathankot (station or airport), Kangra airport or a Dalhousie hotel. Tell us where you're coming from in the enquiry.
Not as Indian travellers, as of November 2026. Riders report that vehicle details are noted at the police check post at Satrundi, so carry your licence, the vehicle's papers and photo ID. Foreign nationals should check the current rules before they travel.
Yes. Every package here is a starting plan. Add a night in Pangi, start from Manali instead, ride instead of drive: say what you want on WhatsApp and we send back a plan.
Tell us how many of you there are, roughly when, and whether you'd rather ride, drive or be driven. We'll suggest a trip, or put one together, and send it on WhatsApp.
